Many people think that if you have a 2.00 GPA that you are no longer eligible for medical school, but this is not so. You may not get into some of the major schools but there is still hope! Getting into medical school with a 2.00 GPA, however, is not going to be an easy task. You will find that getting into medical school with a lower than average GPA will take a lot more work than the other route which, I know, is hard enough. If you are thinking about getting into medical school and you are “below the grade” you really need to sit down and ask yourself- “How bad do I want this?”
I don’t mean to discourage you from trying because honestly, it is very much worth the work. To clarify, I don’t mean that you will be punished and forced to work harder than other medical students nor will you be forced to go to bad schools, it’s just that getting into medical school requires for you to take a few extra steps and to up your discipline in the learning arena.
The first thing you need to know is that getting into medical school doesn’t mean you only have to maintain a 2.00 GPA. Once you do get in you will be like any other medical student, and you will be required to maintain a 3.0 or higher, to do all the work and meet all the same qualifications as everyone else in any other school. Those people getting into medical school with a lower GPA, however, may have to take some time to really build up their work ethic, their study ethic, and their discipline.
